About Me

Honestly, if you're here then you are probably either A) in my English class or B) just saw that this blog had a weird name and clicked on it. I mean I do have five page views even though there is nothing on the blog yet, not sure how that happened. But the name can easily be explained if you have ever heard of a little band named Green Day. I mean just a small band, has a Broadway show after them you know no big deal. Who am I kidding? Green Day was one of the most popular bands in the early to mid 2000's.  They were a mainstream while also keeping the punk roots.

I grew up listening to their music, and I totally would yell the lyrics as loud as I could. Little Heather thought she was so bad ass for listening to punk bands like I didn't live in suburban Charlotte. I was fascinated with the whole culture, and even though I no longer think I am such a hot shot for knowing their music I am still in awe of the whole music genre. So for my blog, I want to submerge myself in the whole culture. I want to know why the punk bands skyrocketed in the 2000's and how that genre set themselves apart from the rest of the music world. I know that punk was still a thing before them, I mean there are greats like NOFX and Sex Pistols. While those were popular bands, they weren't constantly putting out billboard number ones. With that being said I want to know why the transition happened to mainstream. I mean everyone and their brother listened to Weezer, Good Charlotte, Green Day, Fall Out Boy, etc. Was it the lyrics or the beats or just that the music was good quality? That's what I want to know. Hence the blog named after "Wake Me Up When September Ends", so witty I know. I have so many ideas of what I want to cover but and all the bands that I fangirled over growing up. If you did too, you can admit it we all had that awkward middle school punk stage, it's okay it happens to the best of us. Even when you take away the middle school me, I still love the music. When I hear The Killers I instantly become in a better mood. It's just a thing, but that's the thing about music.

So back to what I want this blog to become. I want this to feel like I'm just talking to a friend about some of my favorite music, even if that includes a little bit of my ranting. I want to know everything from what was the first popular 2000's punk rock band to how it has developed and grew over time. People could say that it's just my opinion that I'm not expert and that is 100% true. I'm just a college kid who has a weird thing for old music, so what qualifies me to even write about it? I just like music and maybe someone out there will like to hear me talk about it. Even if you don't I'm going to keep writing (like stated this is a grade). The whole point of this thing is so that maybe I can become a better writer but also so that I can express my ideas about music. That sounds like the whole thing is about me, but I swear its not. I want to give the punk music a little bit of justice and more credit than just being a whole bunch of billboard number #1's. The songs and the music mean something, at least they do to me. So basically that's my mission statement; to be a genuine and authentic while also thoughtfully reflecting on punk music of the 2000's.  "Somebody Told Me" that you were gonna like my blog, the puns just don't stop people.
